Produce Market

strawberriesThe Produce Market is a real treat when you follow the seasons. Unlike many farm markets and especially produce stands, we grow more variety here than almost anywhere I know. It is true that we do have to supplement produce in seasons when it isn’t being grown here or if supply is not adequate but if you follow the seasons closely you can eat right off the farm all year long. See the calendar for when certain items are in season. We desire to grow produce you enjoy eating! So we welcome your input. It has been helpful to us to know how you like a vegetable or fruit. For example someone told us they prefer Kohlrabi about the size of a baseball. Others told us how they preferred to cook it. It all adds to a deepening knowledge of what we do. Please do not hesitate to ask for help. Annie Gore is very helpful.

We want the market to be a place where people can interact and learn from each other. Part of a market is learning from others. We grow items that originate from our southern roots and also grow items that were introduced to us from our northern friends. So the taste ranges from honey off the farm, grits, ham to arugula, dandelion, hubbard squash, speciality relishes , sauces, jams or salad dressings.

Truly the strawberry season is special. This is one place where you can enjoy strawberries in more ways than anywhere. From pick your own, already picked fresh strawberries, strawberry slushy, strawberry pies, strawberry creamy pie, strawberry/ rhubarb pies, strawberry shortcake, strawberry chocolate dip, strawberry milkshake, organic strawberries, strawberry ice cream, strawberry stem berries,  strawberry jam, strawberry jelly, strawberry preserves, strawberries in fruit salad. Check the event calendar from updates as to when the strawberries will be ready.

Blueberries and Blackberries are two other favorite fruits here at the farm. Check the event calendar for seasons and tips about picking your own. The best season for both of these fruits is June  and July.

Peaches and Plums have been grown here for many years. We grow some varieties that are old time favorites such as Georgia Belle , Redhaven and Elberta. For more information about the peach and plum season check the calendar.

Other Ffruits include figs, muscadine grapes, and persimmons. Here at the farm we make grape juice from certain varieties of our muscadine grapes . These have been well received and are particularly prized for the holidays or special occasions. Persimmons are a surprise for many who are not familar with Japanese persimmons.
