Indigo Farms update June 10

    The farm market will be closed this Monday but reopen Tuesday morning at 9 am. We have been picking blueberries for the markets and should begin PYO this week. As we normally do the first 2 times of PYO will be very short because we do not want to over pick the fruit. A blueberry needs to be fully ripe not just colored blue. It takes a whole week to recover from over picking and under ripe fruit is not he quality we want to sell. Watch closely the emails, website and this Face book site.


   Squash, zucchini and cucumbers continue to share their season in the sun. The dill is slowly coming up to speed. Kale and collards are still coming in. We have a new planting that will soon be harvested. The collards are smaller but our feedback has been very good. I have not had bountiful amounts of carrots but the ones we have pulled have been very good. There is more broccoli on the way. Beans are coming along and increasing in volume. Look for some October beans soon. Cantaloupes and watermelons are shaping up. The tomatoes and peppers are doing what they can to get up to speed. We should have a bountiful supply of basil.

We are digging our potatoes now. This ought to be interesting as there are new varieties and a good crop. The site for these potatoes is very good. I am interested in knowing will the soil make a difference in the eating qualilty of these tubers!

Watermelons and cantaloupes are very good now. We are bringing them in from Columbia but they now seem to have over come the bad weather that set them back earlier.

  The Produce Market at the farm  is now open for the season. The current hours are 9 am to 5 pm.  Sarah continues to be at Myrtle’s Market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. She is at the Culinary Institute on Thursday afternoons.  Please sign up for the email to learn what is happening at the farm. You can also check facebook at Indigo farms market to not only learn information but see some pictures of interesting things around the farm.   Up next are some very nice looking squash, zucchini and cucumbers. They should begin next week. PYO blueberries are likely to be ready in mid-June,.
